Four 1 1/4 ounce squares of all butter puff pastry
4 ounces guava paste (about 1/3 cup) Goya's is good
1 scant teaspoon lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon confectioners' sugar
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece of puff pastry into a 5 inch square. Transfer the squares to a cookie sheet.
Slice the guava paste 1/8 inch thick. Put one quarter of the paste in the enter of each pastry square, drizzle with a scant 1/4 teaspoon of the lemon juice and dust with a tiny pinch of allspice. Lightly moisten the edges of the pastry and fold each square into a triangle; crimp the edges to seal. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until chilled.
Bake the turnovers for about 20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Transfer to a rack and let cool for 45 minutes. Sift the confectioners' sugar over the turnovers and serve.
Serves 4.
