2 cups flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups applesauce
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
1 cup raisins
Topping:
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Directions:
In a bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add shortenings, applesauce, and eggs. Beat until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips, nuts and raisins.
Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes, or until cake tests done.
Makes 1 cake.
