Pecan Pizza Coffee Cake

1/2 cup whole bran cereal, coarsely crushed
1/4 cup sugar
1 package active dry yeast
1/2 warm water (110° to 115°)
1 egg
1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup maple flavored syrup
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
In a bowl combine cereal, sugar, and yeast. Stir in water. Let stand 5 minutes. Add egg, 1/2 cup of the flour, oil, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes, scraping bowl often. Stir in remaining flour. Knead 1 minute on a well floured surface. Place in greased bowl, turning once. Cover. Let rise in warm place till double (about 1 hour).

In a saucepan combine pecans, brown sugar, syrup, butter, and cinnamon. Cook and stir till sugar dissolves. DO NOT BOIL. Set aside.

Punch dough down. Let rest for 10 minutes. With floured hands, press dough into a greased 12 inch pizza pan, forming a high edge. Spread pecan mixture to within 1 inch of edge. Place pizza pan on a baking sheet. Bake in a 400°F oven 18 to 20 minutes or till golden. Serve warm.
