Baked Onions

Place 6 medium onions, unpeeled, in an ovenproof dish. Pour in enough water to come halfway up the onions. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Peel and serve the soft flesh with salt, pepper, and a pat of butter. Baked onions are very tasty served with freshly toasted bread as an appetizer or an accompaniment to charcoal broiled dishes. Serves 6.
